How have the many cultures you are mixed with affected your music?

My music is mainly influenced by the diverse group of people I’ve been exposed to all my life.

What role do you see jazz/funk playing in this age of electronica?

I think being a jazz vocalist will have a huge influence in music, when a producer has a unique voice to work with, there is no limit to what they can create.

An influencer, what does that mean to you? What are some essential qualities must you have to be considered one?

As an influencer you have the platform to inspire others to be even more creative and to constantly strive to live outside of the box. Originality, confidence and good energy will set u aside and make u an Influencer.

You’ve played at some amazing venues with renowned musicians; explain your approach in a live music setting?

Live settings are the best! You get to really see the peoples faces you are singing to, not just a sea of lights. When doing a live show i like to talk to the audience- get them nice and comfortable for the zone we are about to go in to.

What’s one thing Nashville, TN has that the big apple can never obtain?

Nashville is where I was born and still have a lot of family and good memories there. New York city will never have the woods i played in as a child or the lakes i fished in with my grandfather. Southern cooking/hospitality can never be imitated. In TN we are born with smiles.

INFLUENCERS ARTIST TALK: Brittany Bosco

You majored in fashion design, what are some different elements you use to create beyond just music to give fans the ultimate “BOSCO” experience?

I’m really in love with design as a whole. Being a multimedia artist I have a chance to explore many different mediums of art and design. Music by far is the ruler of my being, but going to SCAD they push you to explore all aspects of art. I later began to realize that I fancy Industrial Design, its something about the power of hands to create something sustainable from scratch. I believe my audience appreciates the quality of design over the years, more and more I am trying to push beyond my current or latest works. I cant wait until the day I have the budget to do some of the packaging ideas Ive had for years.

If you had to pick an era of music to be a part of, which would it be? and why?

Late 80s/90s.

I feel like I can relate to the woman of that area, i like to call it “controlled sexiness”. Sexy was all about the attitude, that’s why mid-drifts and cuts offs were so popular. There’s something about a round away girl who has tomboy elements with a very feminine flare. Woman embraced there curves and natural hair, we were once strong and confident in our skin. Even Hip-hop back then had a sexy vibe to it which birthed so many dances which I still do today…. Which brings me to “girl groups”,like TLC, En Vogue, Zhane, Brownstone, i grew up listening to these woman even wanting to look like them. Now were in a age where our generation thinks “heels and spandex dresses” are the only way to be confident, strong, and sexy. All these things are red flags to insecurities to me, but who am I to judge.

Your live shows are filled with lots of energy and passion, something that’s been lost in this internet age, how do you engage artists in a live setting?

Its all about crowd interaction and participation, everybody wants to feel apart of something.

An influencer, what does that mean to you? What are some essential qualities must you have to be considered one?

knowledgeable , worldly conscience, down-to-earth, giver, and realist.

What is one fashion trend and one music trend we can all do without?

This event showcased a wide range of up and coming artists meant to cater to an eclectic audience. Indie Music’s Top Artists & Event Mavens Come Together to Create #Postcards VOL 1

The Influence Series releases its first compilation album titled, #Postcards VOL 1 , and supports the VIVA Glam team in the New York AIDS walk 2012

New York, NY – May 10th -The #Postcards event series is set to kick off its summer launch on Monday May 14th. The #Postcards Project is a monthly event highlighting different cultural regions and building awareness around key global issues while bringing contemporary flair to NYC nightlife. For its re-introduction, the lifestyle brand, “The Influence Series” teamed up with some of indie music’s rising stars to create a compilation album that is sure to be a must have this Summer. The Influence Series’ founders Michael “Mancini” McConnell and DJ CEO executive produced the buzz-worthy album, #Postcards Volume I, Set to launch on May 14th, the album features new music from artists like Christian Rich, After the Smoke, POSSO Universe, Brianna Collette, Amtrac, Talwst, Brittany Bosco and more. The albums first single is produced by well known Deejay/Producer DJ M.O.S. and singer/songwriter Nicholas Howard.

Inspired by the eclectic mix the artists brought to the album, The Influence Series felt it was only right to use their event as a platform for independent artists to make their NYC introduction. The album was mastered by musical luminaries M.Willmatic and DJ Big Rich at Sophist Studios in New York City. The event takes place on May 14th at Co-Op Food & Drink @ The Hotel on Rivington on The Lower East Side from 6pm-11pm. The guests will have an opportunity to hear songs off the new album and download for free. As we embark on our fourth event season the Influence Series creative team came together a couple of months ago and decided to put together a compilation album comprising of really dope indie artist in the progressive music space. Our goal as a creative collective is to simply provide platforms for individuals who create art. The album project allows us to introduce our support base to artist from all over the world.

We were inspired by the likes of Stéphane Pompougnac, Kitsuné, DFA Records, Giant Step and various indie artist who use music as a means to communicate social messages.

We have artist such as the super talented designers, musicians by the name of POSSO Universe, AMTRAC, Peter Hadar, TALWST, Brittany Bosco , Nicholas Howard and our lead single produced by global producer/DJ Deejay M.O.S.

As we wrap up the final production, we decided to have our buddy and respected colleague Jey Van-Sharp creative strategist of MyÜberLife an NYC based consulting agency sit down with one of the artist featured on our album, by the name of Brianna Collette. The two spoke about music’s influence on the human psyche, it’s cultural inspiration and their own experiences.

The dialogue was so amazing we decided to film and use some of this compelling conversation for a few skits on the #Postcards album. All of this can be heard on May 14th at CO-OP Food & Drink @ The Hotel On Rivington as we hold the launch event for this rare and rad occasion.

RISING STARS RAISING UP FOR SOMALIA

The Influence Series introduces its new monthly event, The Postcard Project

New York, NY - November 4th 2011 - On November 15^th, New York City’s brightest stars will gather at the Toro Lounge in The Smyth Hotel to “Raise UP for Somalia.” Founders of progressive lifestyle brand Influence Series will be launching The Postcards Project, a monthly event highlighting different cultural and geographic regions, showcasing their contemporary flair. Influence Series founders Michael “Mancini” McConnell and DJ CEO will dedicate its first installment of postcards to the East African country of Somalia. The duo partnered with some of the biggest names in the fashion, art and culinary industries to build awareness for Somalia while showcasing some of the region’s most prominent names in NYC.

Proceeds from the event will support The American Refugee Committee’s “I Am A Star” campaign and The African Future organization to help provide more assistance to organizations on the ground in Somalia fighting poverty and other civil issues in the region. The host council for this event has strong ties to Somalia and are committed to shedding light and bringing relief to the troubled country. Some of the bright stars confirmed for the event on November 15^thare celebrity chef Roblé, designers Ayaan and Idyl Mohallim of the fashion line Mataano, models Fatima Siad, Ayan Elmi, Ci Ci Ali, and Rahma Mohamed, Saada Ahmed and Bravo’s Work of Art Season 1 winner artist Abdi Farah.

Event participants feel that The Postcard Project would showcase the eclectic nature of the county’s people while shedding light on the many issues affecting this country today. Host Council member Roblé says, “We are Raising UP for Somalia in hopes of not only supporting these great organizations, but also bringing national attention to the death, destruction and shortage of resources in my homeland.”

On Monday June 27th NYC gathered at The Tribeca Grand Hotel “Grand Screen Room” to view three short films which were carefully chosen by The Influence Series team. The energy was electric and our host Mr.Jeff Dess led the Q&A with a James Lipton like style. As the excitement of The Influence Series grows we want to make sure to keep our events exciting and engaging. We’re proud to announce the launch our Art & Films series this Monday June 27th as we feature three phenomenal domestic & international cinematic films, with a Q&A lead by artist/actor Jeffrey Dessources aka Mr. Jeff Dess. Our goal is to enrich your senses and introduce you to projects that will provoke dialogue. Our showtime begins at 6:30 SHARP and space is limited so early arrival suggested. There will be cocktails served before event and our regular reception will follow upstairs with all of our featured filmmakers, tunes provided by DJ CEO.

There is a $5 suggested donation with 100% of proceeds going to our filmmakers. The “Grand Screen” is located on the lower level of Tribeca Grand Hotel and there will be signs to direct you towards location.
